A delirious animation to the rhythm of a matryoshka that’s being deconstructed, among buns, hands, and the consumption of cigarettes.
This work by Andy Cahill is not interested in being clear about its narrative. Ideas are presented in dreamlike, surreal sequences and we descend through a rabbit hole that would not frighten Alice, into a Wonderland populated by cigarettes, bread, oranges, clocks. Figures within figures, like nesting dolls. Cahill brings us into a world of ambiguity that relies on garish colours and repeated patterns, where all that’s conventional is thrown out the window. It’s the abstract environment that he’s interested in exploring and the moments of delirium, despair and excitement that he manages to conjure. (Ana Cabral Martins)
