Part of growing up is a certain desire to test the limits and that’s exactly what Duarte does, on one of the several nights when his mother goes to work. Of course, not everything goes as he planned.
Where does the balance you need to be able to do parkour come from? Does it require a special physical condition or a bulletproof mental condition? Can you be afraid when the situation seems difficult? Complicated questions to work through but which are all clever metaphors to talk about the relationship between a son and his mother and how an absence can be overcome by mental strength. One day Duarte comes home and doesn’t have the key to get into the house. Instead of a histrionic arrival, we are aware that there is a young adult growing up, although he hasn’t yet grown a mustache and beard. A film that promises another voice for Portuguese cinema.
