Inside several narrow and crowded stores with different crafts, we follow the gestures of care, the relationship between material and hand, and the trained technique of renovation.
The documentary ‘Under Repair’ leads us to discover the different crafts that keep alive the objects that time deteriorates. In a rhythmic choreography, each gesture of shoemakers, stitchers and mobile phone repairers reveals the delicacy of those who prolong the life cycle of these objects that we connect with out of necessity or affection.
At the same time, the camera captures the atmosphere of these small shops with their workbenches, tools and materials, but also their place in the city. Lisbon has changed: heir to traditions, it now welcomes new artisans; migrants from faraway origins who are challenging the disappearance of the old professions that gave their names to the streets in the city center. These are the new Lisboetas who have recovered the slow rhythms and given back to the city a patience that accelerated tourism has consumed. (Margarida Moz)
