SMART7: seven countries, seven festivals, seven films

Seven European festivals from seven different countries have joined forces to create Smart7, with the aim of encouraging the transnational circulation of European titles. The network is composed of the following film festivals: New Horizons International Film Festival (Poland), IndieLisboa – International Film Festival (Portugal), Thessaloniki International Film Festival (Greece), Transylvania International Film Festival (Romania), FILMADRID International Film Festival (Spain), Reykjavik International Film Festival (Iceland) and Vilnius Kino Pavasaris International Film Festival (Lithuania).

All of them incorporated the programme developed and worked in close collaboration, respecting their own identity and programming criteria. The list of films in competition features: Black Stone by Spiros Jacovides (Greece); Bread and Salt by Damian Kocur (Poland); India by Telmo Churro (Portugal); Mammalia by Sebastian Mihailescu (Romania); Mannvirki by Gústav Geir Bollason (Iceland); Remember to Blink by Austėja Urbaitė (Lithuania); and Tobacco Barns by Rocío Mesa (Spain).

At the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, the last festival of the year, the competition prize is awarded by a jury made up of one student from each country of the festivals that make up Smart7.

IndieLisboa’s 20th edition will start on April 27 and will be at Cinema São Jorge, Culturgest, Cinemateca Portuguesa, Cinema Ideal, Cinema Fernando Lopes and Penha de França Swimming Pool until May 7.
