The 17th edition of IndieLisboa is approaching and promises many fresh takes on film making. The international film festival returns with a renewed image, from April 30th to the 10th of May, 2020, in Cinema São Jorge, Culturgest, Cinemateca Portuguesa and Cinema Ideal.
The main event is joined by IndieJunior which offers a diverse program for children and teenagers: kids, families and teachers. IndieByNight is back to guarantee the night and daily fun of the festival, and LisbonTalks brings more news for professionals, students and lovers of cinema through lectures, masterclasses and debates with special guests.
The image of this edition was created by the graphic design studio Phyphene, based in Porto. It strives to put a light on the mission of search and discovery of the festival, which shows works that are “off the radar”, meaning outside of the regular circulation of film. To mark the new edition, Culturgest will receive a performance selected in partnership with IndieLisboa, on the 2nd of April, at 9 pm. On the same day, a complete program of the 2020 edition of the festival will be announced to the press and the general public.

Maiko Jinushi with Adriana Sá – Sound of Wishes

The Sound of Desires performance was created in 2017 for a live Vancouver biennial and resulted in a video installation that recorded the meeting between Maiko Jinushi and a musician.
In Lisbon, a hybrid version between live show and documentary of this work will be recreated, with the participation of Adriana Sá – music, composer and transdisciplinary artist who also investigates creative practice through the sciences of perception. Maiko Jinushi will dive into the artistic work and personal reflexes of Adriana Sá to develop a dramaturgy of the conversation that will remain unknown to the Portuguese artist, until the moment of this performance.
Maiko Jinushi shows how a simple conversation can change a song by an improviser, how an interpretation can change or change the conversation that speaks intimately of desires, transforming its cameras into emotional microscopes that capture a genetics of artistic production. More information here.
The last edition of the festival, in 2019, featured more than 270 films and 42,000 spectators who not only watched the films, but also went to the many activities of IndieLisboa.
