A film that begins with a character getting away from Algeria to Paris. Money is saved and the departure is imminent. When a friend dies, Yanis visits the wake only to be robbed. A road mission ensues in order to catch the culprit.
Yanis is leaving for a journey of uncertain dreams. On the last day in Algeria, before heading to France, he dedicates himself to the final preparations in the neighboring village and ends up involved in a series of unforeseen events that fuel the anguish of departure. Will there be a destiny? Will it make sense to try to counter it? There will always be doubts about the reports of the success of those who have already left, but let no one question the courage of those who invest everything in the departure, leaving a part of themselves behind.
In this beautiful story, pensive and melancholic, there is an idea of emigration in the opposite direction to success. What awaits us on the other side might just be an imposed, sublimated and silent detachment.
Based on his own story of emigration, director Mouloud Aït Liotna makes his film debut saying that this film is a kind of disillusioned tribute, paid to those who like him are uprooted in fact or in spirit. (Margarida Moz)
