Have you ever imagined Jesus returning as an interstellar traveler who didn’t allow anyone to die, everyone hated him and two siblings made secret plans to destroy him? This movie did.
In the 1983 banger ‘All Night Long (All Night)’, Lionel Richie sang it like this – “We’re going to
Party, Karamu, Fiesta, Forever”. So let’s focus on the possibilities of ‘fiesta, forever’. Jesus 2
uses – inadvertently, almost certainly – the premise of a ‘fiesta, forever’, in a libidinal-surreal and
psychedelic adventure set in a futuristic dimension where you can’t die, which is to say, in a
futuristic dimension where nobody wants to live anymore. Two space pirates are determined to
restore some meaning to their existence and end the curse of immortality. To do this, they will
have to eliminate Jesus 2, the evil messiah responsible for these existential anxieties. All this
with Midnight Gospel and Adventure Time vibes. Although we live in an age of sequels,
prequels, reboots, remasters, shared universes and all that, the Mouth of Madness committee is
confident that it’s possible to watch and appreciate Jesus 2 without having seen Jesus 1. (Bruno Pereira)
