Spring is a time of renewal. Nature comes out of a period of hibernation to strut its stuff in all its splendor. In the south of Italy, in Basilicata, this moment is celebrated with an arboreal wedding rite in the form of a dance, in which human beings join hands with the natural world to achieve something sublime together.
Every spring, a pagan rite takes place in the Italian region of Basilicata, consisting of a marriage of two trees. Angelo Toscano not only has the merit of preserving this rite with his film, which is in danger of disappearing like many other regional customs throughout Italy and Europe, but he does so with a mysterious contemplation and respect for the passage of time. It’s a courageous film by someone thinking about an idea for cinema while observing the union between human beings and nature. (Carlos Ramos)
