Coming-of-age stories are film classics. In this one, Ze is a 17-year-old with a regimented life and several responsibilities on his shoulders, including high school, family obligations and the atypical responsibility of being the shaman of his town in Mongolia, which adds certain spiritual restrictions to his life. But when he meets Maralaa, his world opens up to new possibilities, sensations and desires.

The crew is forced to return, including the actors, and the attempt to save the film is made with time constraints, back-and-forth with the censors and all sorts of shenanigans.

Crossing

Tekla is the trans niece of Lia, a retired teacher, who has not been heard from, since going to Istanbul, for some time. Determined to find her, Lia is persuaded by Achi, her niece’s neighbour and friend who says he knows details of her whereabouts and wants to embark on the search, to leave Georgia together. When they arrive in the city, which turns out to be full of possibilities, they realise that finding someone who doesn’t want to be found can be more complicated than they expected.

A fascinating dive into a particular niche of the Internet that revolves around luxury items, in particular the Birkin bag, which the Hermès brand makes a difficult item to acquire due to its exorbitant price that discourages its purchase. Thus the desire for consumerism is generated.

Direct Action

The title refers to a protest tactic that aims to achieve results by the most effective means. A portrait of an important community in France, which brings together activists, anarchists, farmers and people considered eco-terrorists by the French government. This community has already survived several onslaughts that would have wiped it out, and has even created a movement focused on climate change. The film delves into the heart of the people who make up the community.

Dolomite and Ash

Dina is a Russian film director dedicated to the history and present of Russia. Her latest project includes German sound designer Johan, whose grandfather disappeared during World War II in the USSR. Their journey through Soviet forced labour camps becomes a partnership that spills over into love. Dina (interpreted by the director Toma Selivanova herself) seeks, through their artistic work, to question national traumas that still haunt the country.

Dream Scenario

Kristoffer Borgli, who was in the festival’s Mouth of Madness section last year with his Sick of Myself, now returns with a new black comedy, this time accompanied by Nicholas Cage, always ready for challenging roles, and the American production company A24. Dream Scenario sees Cage’s character, a perfectly ordinary biology teacher, appearing in many other people’s dreams. To the point of becoming famous and, then, to the point of becoming infamous.
