The myth of Pygmalion has a new interpretation here. A man who has lost his wife has only his memories and some videotapes that help him remember every detail about her. He wants, of course, to recreate her in all her glory. And now all he’s missing are her green eyes.
Yuri is a widower with an obsession: to recreate, in studio, his wife as faithfully and vividly as possible, immortalizing her at a specific moment in her life. To do this, he obsessively seeks out the details of her body in those around him, making his small film camera the mediating object of this investigation. The result is an astonishing sculpture -—the only thing missing are the eyes, those green eyes that he chases in the crowd and finally finds in a young man. We can’t imagine a more perfect actor than Denis Lavant to embody this peculiar and romantic Yuri, torn apart by the memory of a love, who has no choice but to pursue one last creative gesture.
