The Pioneers of Cinema in Portuguese Language

An introduction to the cinema made by Lusophone women, around the world, which functions as the pilot episode of a series that’ll be directed by Luísa Sequeira — who had made a documentary on Bárbara Virgínia (Who is Bárbara Virgínia?, 2017), the first Portuguese director and the first woman to present a feature film at Cannes. The film is narrated by a fictional Virginia, played by Joana Linda, as she also did in Sequeira’s feature film.

The Eden of la Ciotat

The first episode of the documentary series Cinémas Mythiques focuses on the Éden theater in the French town of La Ciotat, the first cinema theater in history. Critic Alain Bergala explores the relationship of this city and this cinema to the brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière, accompanying another pair of filmmaker brothers, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, on a tour of this and other iconic spots, such as the train station where the most famous train arrival was filmed.
