In a totally literal sense Lilly Crieghtmore embarks on a very personal, and quite romantic, journey that takes her from the US to the UK and back via Iceland and Southern Africa. Her map is unconventional: it’s following psychedelic rock bands, The Black Angels Brian Jonestown Massacre, Sonic Boom ou Roky Erickson. The film is an intimate behind-the-scenes portrait of the bands she accompanies, which translates into an immersive experience of sounds, rhythms and conversations
In 2008, photographer and filmmaker Lilly Creightmore was invited to accompany The Black Angels on tour as they hit the road as the backing band for the legendary Roky Erickson. From this privileged position, Creightmore constructs an intimate account that captures the story of a handful of artists old and new who influenced the resurgence of a psychedelic-inspired sound at a time when an alternative was being sought to an increasingly impersonal and competitive music industry. Featuring live performances and intimate footage in the backstage and in the back seats of touring vans, we are privileged to witness the journey and evolution of such incredible bands as the aforementioned The Black Angels, but also Spacemen 3, Tess Parks, Anton Newcombe and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Sonic Boom, Night Beats, The Underground Youth and Medicine Boy, and with them we explore the trails of this borderless soundscape, from the USA to South Africa. A sensory journey not to be missed. (Ricardo Duarte)
