The Intruder is a video essay rooted in the experience of a heart surgery. Inspired by texts by Jean-Luc Nancy and María Zambrano, it superimposes clinical, personal, and emotional images to form a dense visual archive. Accumulation and rhythm shape a non-linear narrative in which memory, body, and time are reconfigured through voice and heartbeat.
The heart is the active organ and the centre of the narrative, presented in a dizzying whirl of words and images set to a frenetic, highly philosophical and musical rhythm. The heart, the ‘noble viscera’, the ‘breath of life’, the mysterious element that dwells within us, the unfathomable that lodges within our innermost being, the ‘dark cavity’, the ‘thirst for intimacy’, the ‘indivisible’ – all take shape in a delirious spiral in The Intruder. An archive of images from science, art, the natural world and the personal and private world unfolds whilst reflecting on the body, memory and time. A stream of thoughts beats fearlessly and flows out like a sensitive, blood-like current, setting the rhythm of a world that is thought and reimagined, between the brain and the heart; the emotional graph is variable, the beat constant and the call intense.
