Lorenzo’s ear feels different. It was after a boat accident that the ringing began — and never left — growing louder and more insistent, seeping into the fabric of his everyday life. Through medical appointments and less conventional therapies, this is his search for relief — for something that might restore silence.
After an accident, Lorenzo begins to hear a persistent ringing that profoundly alters his relationship with the world. As the sounds of everyday life begin to unsettle and challenge him, he drifts through medical appointments, therapies and unexpected encounters, in search of relief or understanding. At the heart of the film lies a simple idea, emerging from a medical diagnosis: the less we listen to the outside world, the more we hear what is within. From discomfort to curiosity, the film gradually reveals his growing attentiveness to sound – to what comes from without and what resonates within – shaping a delicate sensory experience, between familiar noises and newly perceived frequencies. With a gentle rhythm and subtle humour, El oído absoluto traces a path of listening and openness, where strangeness gives way to an intimate form of reconciliation with the world. (Cláudia Marques)
