In a city that was once typically Portuguese, a real estate agent tries to persuade customers to rent tiny apartments, even if it means evicting the people who live there.
Oh, modern life, modern life, how complicated do you have to be? All I’m asking for is a two-bedroom apartment in a central area of Lisbon and a 10/20 minute walk to work! Is that too much to ask? For the reality of 2024, it’s apparently quite a lot to ask. In Vicente Nirō’s animated film, we follow a real estate agent who, day after day, in Porto, has to come up with more and more crazy excuses to sell exponentially smaller and more comical T0s. All this under the constant threat of eviction from her own apartment. Oh, modern life, modern life, how inescapable is the feeling of powerlessness? The only thing I ask is the dignity of a rental contract that will reduce on the purchase of the property in the future and with a rent that is no more than the national minimum wage. It shouldn’t be too much to ask. (Rui Mendes)
