Behind closed curtains, in the murky bedroom of a young man with ambitions of sorcery, unfolds the second short film by Catalan Christian Avilés — a filmmaker deeply interested in the hidden spirituality of adolescence.
Christian Avilés’ cinematic universe pulses with magic, in theme and in form. In this second film, a queer character, seen as a “freak”, pours desire into the phone pressed to the chest, into dreams and poems devoted to the one longed for. The sentence “I belong to desire” captures not only the confinement of a small room, but the fiery hunger of a youth burning for a life that blazes. It’s both a film and spell, drawing viewers in, enchanting, and awakening the memory of love experienced with almost unbearable intensity. (Pedro Gonçalves Ribeiro)
