Guilt consumes us, and so does fear. When young Alex witnesses his best friend being violently attacked, all he can do is run away and remain silent, like a victim of a hidden demon – which, in his case, is the concealment of a secret that makes him, in his own eyes, guilty. Monstro is a film about teenagers who are growing up, just as their bodies and desires are. That is how they see themselves, but the parks have many eyes and conceal many fears. This is a film about the discovery of courage, anchored in Nuno Baltazar’s solid direction and in the masterful work of composition, art direction, colour and sound.
