A renowned emblem of Portuguese interventionist theater, the Cornucópia tear appeared in fascist obscurity to combat the dictatorship on stage. Among the classics, a project is born and dies, but one face remains iconic: Luís Miguel Cintra, who shared his art with the permanent complicity of a filmmaker, Solveig Nordlund. Together, they organize their drawers, guided by images, traces and testimonies of the protagonists who survived this History.
There are theatres in Lisbon that bring back many memories, which is why the title chosen for this film seems entirely justified, given that the Teatro da Cornucópia will always be one of them. With Luís Miguel Cintra and Jorge Silva Melo, in 1973, at its inception in an attempt to professionalise their experiments in university theatre, a meteorite falls in Lisbon. A revolutionary bomb avant son temps. And it was always in a theatre that questioned, thought about, debated, as a group, as a team, but with the personality of its founders that this project was shaped. Silva Melo’s departure at a certain point forced the project to be restructured, but it continued under the baton of Cintra and set designer Cristina Reis, a key member of the team. The film continues with archive footage of various shows from their inception to their closure, including emblematic pieces, the company’s actors and actresses, the texts and the sets. This is a film by Nordlund, who has accompanied this company and its protagonists over the years, making this collective memory his own through the medium of cinema.
