What Jodie Mack does with images seems to elude the realm of concrete things — or at least to grant it another temporality, another light, as if unfolding within a dream, through a singular and wholly experimental montage. In Lover, Lovers, Loving, Love, the British filmmaker composes a loving and erotic choreography among flowers and petals rescued from her own garden.
The return of experimental filmmaker Jodie Mack to the festival (The Grand Bizarre, IndieLisboa 2019) unfolds through poetry, romance, and a continuous dance of flowers. All films are meant to be seen in a cinema, but some only truly make sense when experienced that way. This is one of them. In that space, the film rises to another level, that of a shared, almost ritualistic sensory experience. There is love, life, sex, and death. The film is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. A beauty that multiplies across each of its parts, until it spills into a psychedelic explosion of floral textiles. (Carlso Ramos)
