Ana, Malú and Martina already have a strategy in place: find some rich guys, seduce them, put them to sleep and steal their money. And as in other stories like this, they only have one last job to do. The target is an eccentric millionaire who manages cryptocurrencies. The plan goes wrong, the dosages are miscalculated and they discover that being alive is not necessarily the opposite of being dead. But being dead is perhaps the best time to discover love.
El tema del verano could’ve been just a movie about zombies, just be a romantic comedy with zombies involved, or even be an allegory of the pandemic with zombies on the margins. But it’s much more than that. This film is a satire on a certain kind of lover of capitalism made up of cryptocurrencies, of a certain kind of dilettante or derivative artist, of a certain kind of arts patron. Uruguayan director Pablo Stoll risk a little juggling act of various ideas that results in something amusing and unexpected. The actresses, Azul Fernández, Débora Nishimoto and Malena Villa (El llanto), are a charming and intriguing trio and the key to the film’s charm. (Ana Cabral Martins)
