Loss often takes the slow silhouette of apathy. As if the gaze drifts away, as if walking were suffering and speaking a mountain to climb, Miguel and Laura drag themselves through pain in search of an embrace. Youth is an unspoken sentence.
Two people missing someone. In a brief excerpt from what almost feels like a slow motion relay race of characters, one smoothly giving way to another, and so on (including returns, overlaps, and closing loops), Certas Formas seems to offer the viewer a fresco of emotions and the gestures that convey them. Avoiding a direct access to the emotions, in simple words each person establishes their state, embodying the melancholy that permeates the film in a brief and unfinished explanation. Then the clash and friction of these encounters, gentle clashes rather than violent ones, gradually reveal in the visible the particularity of how each person feels it, and even more importantly, how each person shows that they feel it. In a subtle and sensitive way, privileged moments of interaction unfold through the filmmaker’s prolonged care for attention and staging. (Vasco Muralha)
