After buying a tuna wrap during a rushed lunch break, Kate Renshaw-Lewis found herself wondering how that product had made its way into her hands. Inspired by the logic of a Rube Goldberg machine, Busy Bodies explores the absurdity of our global supply chain.
Rube Goldberg, a North American cartoonist and engineer, became famous in popular culture for his unnecessarily complicated machines designed to achieve very simple goals. We can spend hours on YouTube watching these intricate and delightful machines, which use the domino effect and that anyone can build at home. Kate Renshaw-Lewis takes this universe and elevates it into a fascinating hand-drawn loop animation, made using inkjet and screen-printing techniques. A texture that gradually fades throughout the film, as an effect of the repetition of an assembly line. (Carlos Ramos)
