Prejudice & Pride – Swedish Film Queer

Eva Beling draws on 100 years of Swedish cinema history to take the audience on a journey where the lens is from a queer perspective, revealing portrayals of gay and transgender people to the present day. The cinematic journey begins with Mauritz Stiller, goes through Greta Garbo, Mai Zetterling, Ingmar Bergman and the sexploitation of the 1970s all the way to contemporary cinema.

Fiction is never very far from reality. A young man, of Portuguese heritage, decides to do a PhD based on the documentary The Good People of Portugal, a work from 1980, also directed by Rui Simões. This opens the door to a parallel between the reality of the film we see and that of PREC, the moment of the studied documentary and the contemporary world, with the young Michel in between.

The director comes into possession, through a serendipitous internet purchase, of a roll of 16mm film belonging to an unknown family. This film becomes an investigation, through a post-colonial perspective, using digital tools and the clues that the film offers, to deconstruct and investigate the origin of the material and the socio-political and historical context that surrounds it, namely the Apartheid in South Africa.

Remember to Blink

Two Lithuanian children were adopted by a French couple, Jaqueline and Leon, but a need arises in order for them to overcome communication difficulties and facilitate adaptation. Gabriele, a student also from Lithuania, comes to live with this family to help. Between the two maternal figures, a dispute begins over the impact on the children, with Jacqueline as the authority figure, but Gabriele as the friendly presence that wins them over.
