Self-tapes and home videos: filmmakers have always used their handy cams to express their vision of the world. In a more or less experimental way – sometimes on a journey that documents domestic and mundane life, other times through the world of ‘homemade’ self-fiction – handy cameras almost always promote a more raw, less harmonious and more rarefied approach. Perhaps that’s why they retain a naivety and vulnerability that attracts us.
This month’s list of suggestions compiles various works that show the use of a ‘light’ camera for domestic and amateur uses (in the purest, boldest, most exploratory and empirical sense), whether they document the present or fictionalise other realities.
We hope it inspires you to document your summer too.
