The two decade anniversary of the cinephile crow was really a party and marked the return to full rooms and the pre-pandemic numbers of the festival, in an edition with 30 thousand spectators, distributed among the 270 film sessions, 17 of which were sold out. In total, there were 11 days of cinema programming, parties, concerts and parallel activities held between the usual venues, such as Cinema São Jorge, Culturgest, Cinema Ideal, Cinemateca Portuguesa or the Biblioteca Palácio Galveias, and new partners, such as Cinema Fernando Lopes and the Penha de França Swimming Pool.
We also highlight the number of participants of the parallel activities – more than four thousand, which together with the spectators add up to more than 34 thousand people that passed through the festival.
This year, the usual sponsors have been renewed, namely EMEL, TVCine and BPI Fundação La Caixa.
This 20th Anniversary edition had some very special novelties, such as Cinema at the Pool, which had its 3 sold out sessions, IndieDate, a blind date for cinephiles, and the awaited return of the Mouth of Madness Marathon, after a long break, besides the 314 films selected, the highest number in the history of the festival. It was cinema for (almost) all tastes.
This twentieth edition also counted with 600 accredited professionals and five activities dedicated to the industry, two of them – IndieLab by NOVA FCSH and the Co-Production Forum, in its first edition. The photos of this edition can be found on the festival’s official Facebook page.
Between the months of May and September, seven extensions of the festival will take place in different cities of the country: Aljezur, Coimbra, Leiria, Montemor-o-Novo, Palmela, Pinhal Novo and Vila Franca de Xira.
IndieLisboa will return in 2024, in new dates, from May 23 to June 2, with a new selection of the best national and international independent cinema production.
Until then, here is the after movie of this edition:
