From 1970, presented here in a newly restored version, Ester Krumbachová’s film—by a key figure of the Czech New Wave and co-writer of the essential Daisies, by Věra Chytilová—revolves around Ona, a forty-year-old single woman whose life has not turned out quite as she had hoped; a marriage would be the bare minimum. She then recalls an old flame who, in his present form, happens to be the Devil. If at first this does not seem to trouble Ona, the conversation soon takes a different turn.
