SCREENING WITH Q&A

Normal Planet

The trio of filmmakers met at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier, where they soon founded a research collective exploring the intrusion of reality into online video games. After several films delving into this relationship, they arrive at Normal Planet, where a virtual museum welcomes visitors embodied by extravagant avatars.

Playing Drunk

Documentary film(mast)er Jan visits the (playing) drunk slave HD. Playing Drunk is the new film by Jan Soldat—a German filmmaker who has devoted his body of work to exploring sexuality, intimacy, fetish, and, ultimately, love — and marks his return to the festival after being featured in the Focus section at IndieLisboa in 2015.

Merrimundi

The eerie chant of a decaying choir of cherubs heralds a utopia. A machine — not quite a machine — unveils its own vision of paradise. Merrimundi is the latest film by Niles Atallah whose recent work has delved deeply into post-apocalyptic aesthetics.

Our land of enchantment

In Roswell, New Mexico, aliens are everywhere — they’re the local mascot, the identity of this small town that claims to have witnessed the crash of a UFO in 1947. More than a search for answers, this is a film that carries us in its pocket and hurls us into the surreal. Annabelle Amoros (Special Mention for the Silvestre Award for Best Short Film at IndieLisboa 2022 with Churchill, Polar Bear Town) returns to the festival.
