A film that collects the images that are disclaimers or contextualizations of films prior to the film starting: from the notice of being based on a true story to anti-piracy warnings. The links between law and creative freedom may only be incidental. Please be alerted that this film may contain warnings.
What should you know about the film you are about to see before the lights go out in the cinema? Disclaimers make part of the film history for about as long as the film history exists, be it the new Star Wars or a magic lantern show. Are they gestures of care or ways of policing? A production company, a theatre owner, a distributor, and the authors themselves are concerned with framing the images, as if they feared their pure force. But the images, carefully collected by the filmmaker Maxime Martinot in this film together with some of the most memorable disclaimers, continue untamed. The film you are about to see is based on true events, and be advised that it may change the way you enter the cinema. (Anastasia Lukovnikova)
