A chef and her assistant, also lovers, set out to make the best dumplings they can. But while they’re at it, they could also do with not being arrested for evading fines, rent and other criminal acts. But nothing a juicy dumpling can’t cure.
I’m always thinking that we’re missing more dirty films in the Mouth of Madness, something even (in)appropriately raunchy. Sweet Juices by Australians Will Suen and Sejon Im falls from the sky to fill this filthy gap so rarely filled in this section’s programming. It’s the story of Shirong and Tony, a chef couple who are experts in creating the juiciest dumplings ever, but although they are full of passion (for each other and for their dumplings) they are also full of debt. In the span of one night we are completely covered in sweat, saliva, blood and dumpling juice and at the end we are still licking our fingers or asking for a bag to throw up in. My plea is that you see Sweet Juices and that it compels you to make a movie that is a pigsty, the world needs it. (Rui Mendes)
