Milton Nascimento is a singer, a songwriter and a connoisseur of multiple instruments. Music is at the core of his being. He is also considered one of the most important Brazilian artists in its history, with musical partnerships (and friendships) with all of Brazil’s greats, and several Grammys to his name. The artist’s history and legacy are explored in this film, whose starting point is Nascimento’s farewell tour.
Accompanying Milton Nascimento’s farewell tour – A Última Sessão de Música – which also stopped in Portugal in 2022, this film shows us one of the greatest living legends of Brazilian music. Filmed over two years and narrated by acclaimed actress Fernanda Montenegro, Milton Bituca Nascimento takes us to his last concerts, but also behind the scenes, sharing more than 40 testimonies from Brazilian and international artists and personalities, such as Caetano Veloso, Quincy Jones, Simone, Spike Lee, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Djavan, Maria Gadú, Tim Bernardes or Maria Rita, who says that when Bituca – as he is affectionately known – ‘sings, he opens a window for people’s souls to breathe’. A portrait of both personal and professional sides of this iconic artist and a tribute to a man who says that ‘music came before speech’ and that he has never felt alone, because music has always been with him.
