A roadside strip club run by an entire family — and, as always in João Canijo’s cinema, a family with more beneath the surface than it first appears. It is time to return to In the Darkness of the Night (2004), one of his most significant works, presented here in the director’s cut — in essence, the film’s original version, running 17 minutes longer than the one premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004. A tribute screening dedicated to one of the masters of national cinema, who passed away this past January.
