Howling

Aya Kawazoe

Japan
2022, 23'

A surreal and melancholic film that plays with japanese ghost stories and where the characters question whether they are alive or already on another plane of existence.

Shusaku receives the news that his little brother has died. When he goes to see the body, he finds his own face in his brother’s body. Aya Kawazoe adapts a short story by Hyakken Uchida in a way that allows us to be lost in Shusaku’s nightmarish journey to find his own self while reliving his own memories as well as his brother’s. Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s brilliant film “Pulse” comes to mind when we’re deeply lost amidst the howling from an unknown source. (Rui Mendes)
