A chant from another time reveals the ancient everyday gestures of a Gypsy family, anchored by the errant couple Maria and Arménio. In the flow of days and life cycles, we find resistance and celebration.
In the world of Cochena, anything goes: picking flowers, lying on the ground, looking for snails, looking at photographs, remembering those who are no longer with us and whom we miss; actions that reveal a tremendous zest for life. Maria and Arménio lead the way in this world, and we follow them on walks, through conversations and encounters, through everyday moments, confessions and reflections. We follow them through the gypsy wanderings that overflow with life, where there are bonfires, dancing and music, children and joy. A film punctuated by time, by gestures, by celebrations, by young people and adults, and by what they think and say on the spur of the moment. A film where everything flows and everything seems vital. A cinematic gaze that seeks what is given to it in an immense exchange and that stays very close to the people. (Carlota Gonçalves)
