Sometimes being in your twenties means not having a clear direction in your life and that’s what happens to Errol and Sasha. We see their day-to-day lives unfold in fragments, we see who they are with, what they do, and how they intertwine. But bluish is about this condition of ambiguity in which everything is still possible, not all the choices have been made yet.
Errol and Sasha don’t know each other. Despite both being women of a similar age who live in Vienna, a lot seems to separate the two, and their paths never directly cross. Directors Milena Czernovsky and Lilith Kraxner don’t establish a traditional narrative progression, preferring instead to show us fragments of the protagonists’ quotidian existence: we observe their routines, the spaces they inhabit, the silences that surround them and the desires that traverse them. Czernovsky and Kraxner film with care and attention the passage of time in these characters’ lives, and show us with subtle poetry a profoundly contemporary youth, caught between solitude and yearning.
