At the producer’s request, the screening on May 7 â€“ C.118, will not have descriptive subtitles in Portuguese.

It’s springtime in Lisbon and Nicolau turns 24, but he’s not celebrating. Living in his parents’ house, hostage to a dream of being a musician that never comes true and plagued by the ideal image of an ex-girlfriend who left him a year ago and never came back, Nicolau feels incapable of moving forward and inventing a life of his own. He takes odd jobs until the day he discovers that his mother is just as dissatisfied with life as he is. Nicolau is shaken, but he doesn’t stumble.

‘Of all the things that are certain, the most certain and known is doubt’, is sung at the start of the film, which takes us through Nicolau’s uncertainties in current Lisbon. The young man’s footsteps guide us through bars and meetings, nights and walks, the city welcomes us bright and nocturnal. A long-distance love, friendships and Nicolau moves between rehearsals, bookshops, cafés, the cinematheque, random encounters. He gravitates towards the desire to be a musician, not knowing and letting go in the lightness of spring. (Carlota Gonçalves)
