Saving One Who Was Dead

A semi-autobiographical work by Václav Kadrnka and the third film in his trilogy about the “Absence of a Loved One”. The narrative involves a family whose father suffers a cardiovascular accident and is left in a coma, in a limbo between life and death. Mother and son try to find a way, against the doctors’ lack of hope, to bring him back to life.

A political mockumentary that, with cheeky humour, never talks about politics. It is impossible to dislike Rose, who is occupying a recently abandoned house. The previous owner’s belongings are still there and the new “tenant” says she’s only taking care of the house, for which she feels an affinity.

SITA – the life and times of Sita Valles

Sita Valles was born in Angola, in 1951, but studied Medicine in Lisbon, where she became a communist student leader. After 1974, and because she considered that the revolution in Portugal had no future, she left for Angola and joined the MPLA, the liberation movement. Sita died at the age of 26, in 1977, in circumstances which have not been fully clarified. Testimonies of political figures who crossed paths with her tell us about her life. This screening will be followed by a debate moderated by Marta Lança.

Songs for Drella

A concert film, from 1990, now in a restored version. Ed Lachman captured, three years after Andy Warhol’s death, a stage performance by Lou Reed and John Cale of the album they wrote together in honor of their mentor — Drella, a combination of Dracula and Cinderella, which was a nickname used by his crowd. The songs on the album talk about his perspective, his life and the relationship between the two musicians and Warhol himself.
