Especial Canais TVCine

In a kind of pre-preparation for another IndieLisboa edition, the TVCine channels have prepared a special edition dedicated to IndieLisboa, highlighting award-winning films from the last edition.

Rising Up At Night (the big winner of the TVCine Channels Special Jury Prize in 2024), a film that visits Kinshasa at a time when the Democratic Republic of Congo, in general, and the city, in particular, are embroiled in turmoil. The focus of the film is the construction of a power station, while the city is struggling to access electricity and the nights are, metaphorically and otherwise, much darker. What emerges is both the nonconformity and the resistance of this population, often through the power of faith.

City of Wind portrays Ze, a 17-year-old studying hard at school to succeed in the cold and unfeeling society of modern Mongolia. When Ze meets Maralaa, his senses are awakened and another reality seems possible.

In Crossing, Lia, a retired teacher from Georgia, travels to Istanbul in search of her trans niece, Tekla, who disappeared after being rejected by her family. Together with young Achi, Lia explores the city and finds support in Evrim, a trans rights lawyer.

Greice and Banzo (NOVA FCSH Best Director for a Feature Film). Greice tells the story of a 22-year-old girl from Ceará who moves to Lisbon to study Fine Arts, but after an accident suspends her from university, she returns to Fortaleza. There, she finds herself torn between dilemmas about identity and relationships, questioning her path and choices. In Banzo, we meet Afonso, a doctor on an African plantation in 1907, who is in charge of curing labourers affected by ‘Banzo’, a fatal nostalgia among slaves. As suicides and deaths increase, the doctor faces a moral dilemma between healing and despair.

This special programme will air on the channels throughout the month of May, at different times.
