Indie Lisboa is getting ready to kick off the 22nd edition of the International Film Festival, and as usual we’re kicking things off with the celebratory energy of IndieByNight.
IndieByNight’s main function is to bring people together outside the cinemas, and thus continue to celebrate cinema in different ways, often to the sound of music and soundtracks that have marked the programme. Inexorably, IndieByNight is always about bringing together different people from different backgrounds and geographies.
This year IndieByNight anticipates the festival in a Lisbon night of music and poetry born on the edges of the city. In partnership with the production of Filhos do Meio – Hip Hop à Margem, a film by Luís Almeida, and with Estúdio Time Out, IndieByNight is organising a night when rap from Almada crosses the bridge and settles in Cais do Sodré to show that there is life beyond Lisbon.
Filhos do Meio is produced by Many Takes and traces a portrait of rap from Almada over the decades. The doors open at 10pm with a line-up from the fringe: DJ Fellaz, Juana na Rap and DarkSunn are part of this story and will open the countdown to the 22nd edition of IndieLisboa – International Film Festival.
This year IndieByNight has two official bars from 1 to 11 May:
Noir Désir
Noir Désir opened last year and is a new nightspot in Arroios located at 116B Rua Passos Manuel. A new, very underground playground right in the centre of Lisbon. Very close to Culturgest, perfect for watching the usual DJ sets and for socialising between staff, guests and the festival audience.
Highlights include the party dedicated to Orlando Pantera, which takes place on the first weekend of the festival. It’s going to be a hot night to the sound of Cape Verdean music (Related film: Orlando Pantera by Catarina Alves Costa). Exceptionally, for this night event, the party will end at 4am.
Casa do Comum
Casa do Comum is where we get together to toast, share conversations and open up dialogue after the sessions. From Wednesday to Sunday from 11pm to 2am. Join IndieLisboa in Lisbon’s best block with Casa do Cinema and Casa do Comum in the neighbourhood, and come and celebrate the end of the day with us at Rua da Rosa nº285.

We end the festival with a closing party related to Daniel Mota’s film Paraíso, which takes us through the emergence of rave culture in Portugal in the 90s. In an ode to the underground movement and clubbing, we ended the festival late into the night, raving to the sounds of Maria Amor, Yen Sung and Telma, at the Moon Club, in R. Ary dos Santos 3 (Prior Velho).
