IndieLisboa Lab: Call for Entries!

IndieLisboa Lab 2025

IndieLisboa Lab is a mentoring workshop for film and audiovisual projects, part of the IndieLisboa Festival. Eight Portuguese-language projects will be selected to take part in two meetings in which the initial idea and motivation, point of view, narrative structure and creative vision, still in the development phase, will be worked on. At the end, the authors will have exclusive meetings with producers and market players, organised by the IndieLisboa Festival.

Projects with non-hegemonic, diverse narratives and characters that contribute to the construction of new imaginaries in cinema will be favoured. We’re looking to support emerging voices and innovative perspectives with an original project in the development phase that has the potential to enter the market and attract national and international partners.

Applicants should be open-minded, curious and interested in discussing their ideas with everyone involved in the Lab.

Notification of those selected: February 03, 2025

The lab will take place in two stages, both in person:

Stage 1 – From 28 to 30 March 2025
Stage 2 – From 01 to 04 May 2025 (during the 22nd edition of the IndieLisboa Festival)

SELECTION

The projects will be analysed by a committee linked to IndieLisboa and the selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • Originality of the project and, above all, of the point of view;
  • Narratives that favour innovative and non-stigmatised representations of characters and contribute to a new look at cinema;
  • Some experience in writing and development on the part of the person submitting the proposal, but it is important to emphasise that extensive experience is not necessary, but rather a life/career/professional trajectory that proves competence and the will to take the project forward;
  • The project’s potential on the national and international market.

The project may or may not have an associated producer.

There are no associated costs for taking part in the workshop and the selected projects gain access to IndieLisboa 2025 activities and sessions.

If Portuguese-speaking projects are chosen that do not live in Portugal or Brazil, the associated logistics costs will be covered by the person taking part.

Mentoring will be provided by Fernanda Polacow, a screenwriter and script mentor.

Producer Andreia Nunes will provide production consultancy for one day.
