We kick off today with the opening session at Cinema São Jorge. The film Une langue universelle, by Matthew Rankin, opens at 7pm in the Manoel de Oliveira room. It’s a childish film that portrays three stories whose paths cross in a territory that is sometimes Canadian and sometimes Iranian. A tender and sensitive film that seeks a universal language. Using elements of the absurd, this film promises to leave hearts lighter. Find out more about the film here.
We also premiere and very sweet and delicious animation film from Zivot k sezrání for young audiences: Living Large adresses, in an empowering way, adolescence, self-esteem and body shaming, carefully hand-crafted stop-motion sets and characters.
The closing session of the festival takes place on 11 May at Culturgest with the feature film Caught By The Tides, by Jia Zhang-ke. In a China on the rise technologically, a singer and dancer decides to venture out in search of her lover who had promised to return when he had money. More information about the film here.
As of today, the festival continues for 11 days, with lots of films and activities inside and outside the cinemas.
Today we’re also highlighting one of the titles in the Rizoma section: The Last Showgirl – a film with a luxury cast, awarded the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastián Festival, which will have its national premiere on 1 May at Culturgest, at 21h30.
