European networks Smart7 e ESFN (European Short Film Network)
The European film networks of which IndieLisboa is a member deserve to be highlighted once again in 2025.
The third edition of Smart7, a European competition program primarily aimed at highlighting the work of emerging filmmakers, returns to IndieLisboa. IndieLisboa is one of the seven festivals that founded this initiative in 2023, which is supported by the MEDIA cooperation program of the EU’s Creative Europe. The Vilnius International Film Festival (Lithuania), the FILMADRID International Film Festival (Spain), the Transilvania IFF (Romania), the New Horizons Festival (Poland), the Reykjavik IFF (Iceland), and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival (Greece) are the other members of Smart7. In 2025, seven films will circulate across Europe, including the Portuguese film Hanami by director Denise Fernandes.
The ESFN – European Short Film Network (or European Short Film Network) was founded in 2018 to promote and strengthen European short films. In addition to IndieLisboa, five other festivals are members of this network: Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen (Germany), Go Short Festival in Nijmegen (Netherlands), 25FPS (Croatia), Vienna Shorts (Austria), and Uppsala Kortfilmfestival (Sweden). In 2025, the program, titled “The Raw Data: The Origins of Digital Film” will present nine experimental films that delve into the legacy of digital images, their processes, techniques, and distinct approaches.
