The jury, made up of Lyse Ishimwe Nsengiyumva, Marta Sim\u00f5es and Daniel Jonas, emphasised the \u2018courageous narrative and impressive cinematography\u2019. Adding: \u2018The sensible and sensitive direction makes the film a compelling viewing experience and makes it a breath of fresh air – a refreshing yet profound and powerful analysis. The skilful director shows us a world of complicated family relationships and deep-rooted traditions, moving from a culturally specific narrative to universal themes in an elegant and original way.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n The TVCine Channels Special Jury Prize<\/strong>, which guarantees the acquisition of the film’s rights for Portugal, awarded Vitrival – The Most Beautiful Village in the World<\/em>, by Belgian duo No\u00eblle Bastin and Baptiste Bogaert. In this case, the jury refers to \u2018a village where nothing and everything happens at the same time\u2019. \u2018The humour is dry, the pace is deliberate, and the result is an ironic and poignant meditation on the inertia and quiet strangeness of rural life.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n The EMEL Short Film Grand Prize <\/strong>(4000 euros) was awarded to Their Eyes<\/em>, by Frenchman Nicolas Gourault. The panel of judges (Beatriz de Almeida Rodrigues, In\u00e8s Sieulle and Victor Morozov) decided to award this \u2018anthropological exploration of the invisible human labour behind the development of AI technology\u2019, highlighting it as \u2018a relevant meditation on how technology is shaping our perception of the world.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n Servicio necrol\u00f3gico para usted<\/em>, by Cuban Mar\u00eda Salafranca, and The Building and Burning of a Refugee Camp<\/em>, by Irishman Dennis Harvey, won the Special Jury Prize, which awards 500 euros to each of the films. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The MAX Award for Best Feature Film in the National Competition<\/strong> (5000 euros) honoured Hanami, by Denise Fernandes. The film \u2018stood out for its formal precision, emotional depth and narrative restraint\u2019. The jury also emphasised \u2018its immersive visual language, in which each frame contributes significantly to an atmosphere of silent reflection\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Best Feature Film Directing Award<\/strong> (1000 euros) went to Duas Vezes Jo\u00e3o Liberada<\/em>, by Paula Tom\u00e1s Marques. The jury described it as a \u2018daring and inventive approach to directing\u2019. The film questions historical and cinematic conventions and hierarchies with intelligence, humour and confidence. The director’s ability to navigate complex themes with formal freedom is indicative of a mature and distinctive artistic voice.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the subject of filmmaking, the jury – David Moragas, Mimi Plauch\u00e9 and Ricardo Teixeira – also decided to give a Special Mention to Gods of Stone<\/em>, by Iv\u00e1n Casti\u00f1eiras Gallego. \u2018Gods of Stone presents a sensitive and visually layered portrait of a community moulded by time and memory,\u2019 said the jury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The National Competition Best Short Film Award<\/strong> (2000 euros) was won by Ant\u00edgona ou a Hist\u00f3ria de Sara Benoliel<\/em>, by Francisco Mira Godinho. \u2018This short film stood out for its sharp writing, tonal balance and captivating narrative voice. It tackles a difficult subject with a combination of humour, precision and emotional intelligence. The jury particularly appreciated the way the film maintains cultural specificity while achieving a wider resonance. By offering a perspective of hope, it invites reflection without moralising,\u2019 he specifies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Brand New Prize<\/strong>, which awards a prize of 1,000 euros and the promotion and sale of the film in question by Portugal Film, went to In Repair<\/em>, by Beatriz Machado Oliveira. The jury, made up of Diana Coelho, Carolina Serranito and Ant\u00f3nio Miguel Arenas, mentioned its \u2018great social and cultural interest, valuing traditional trades, almost extinct in the contemporary era (\u2026) it promotes cultures often reviled as \u201cinvaders\u201d, while reinforcing the importance of the role of all immigrant workers.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n It also awarded two honourable mentions: Winners<\/em>, by Edgar Gomes Ferreira and Between the Sea and the Island<\/em>, by Jos\u00e9 Rodrigo Freitas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Honda Silvestre Award for Best Feature Film<\/strong> (1500 euros) is shared by Ariel,<\/em> by Lois Pati\u00f1o, and little boy, by James Benning. The jury – Andrei T\u0103n\u0103sescu, Catarina de Sousa and Michelle Gurevich – decided to award both productions the trophy ex-aequo, citing \u2018two films that encompass the various roles of cinema: to explore, expand and stimulate the collective imagination – in poetry and politics – two equally important facets of the human condition\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Silvestre School of the Arts Award for Best Short Film<\/strong> (1000 euros) honoured Razeh-del<\/em>, by Maryam Tafakory. The IndieMusic Award<\/strong> (1000 euros) went to Orlando Pantera<\/em>, a film by Catarina Alves Costa. Eduardo Morais, Nuno Calado and Vera Marques (Pu\u00e7anga), the jury of the competition, considered this \u2018a documentary without artifice or flattery, which shows the journey of a daughter in search of the influences left by her father to so many generations and cultural universes (\u2026) in an audiovisual portrait that begins as family and ends up being ours.\u2019 Orlando Pantera has an extra screening at IndieLisboa tomorrow, 11 May, at 6.30pm, in the Em\u00edlio Rui Vilar Auditorium, Culturgest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Amnesty International Prize<\/strong> (1500 euros) was awarded once again to On Becoming a Guinea Fowl<\/em>, by Rungano Nyoni. The jury was made up of Ana Relvas Fran\u00e7a, Catarina Sobral and Rodrigo Cardoso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The MUTIM Award<\/strong> (250 euros), which recognises the short film in the Nov\u00edssimos section that best contributes to a non-stereotypical cinematic imaginary in Portuguese cinema, was awarded to Amanh\u00e3 N\u00e3o D\u00e3o Chuva<\/em>, by Maria Trigo Teixeira. The jury, made up of Ana Vilela da Costa, Nay Ara\u00fajo and Raquel Freire, also gave an honourable mention to Entre o Mar e a Ilha<\/em>, by Jos\u00e9 Rodrigo Freitas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Schools Award for Best Short Film<\/strong> went to Ant\u00edgona ou a Hist\u00f3ria de Sara Benoliel<\/em>, by Francisco Mira Godinho. The Schools Jury was made up of Gilberto de Pina, Lyana Santos and Estrela Coelho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Universities Award for Best Portuguese Feature Film<\/strong> honoured Gods of Stone<\/em>, by Iv\u00e1n Casti\u00f1eiras Gallego.
