The jury, composed of Karel Och, Rachel Daisy Ellis, and Sarah Bich\u00e3o, highlighted the film\u2019s well-constructed narrative, noting that \u201cthis film does not shy away from provoking strong emotions and triggering anger, yet there are moments of light and hope that connect us deeply to the lives of these protagonists and, ultimately, to the pillars of humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The special mention went to <em>Bouchra<\/em>, by Orian Barki and Meriem Bennani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGiven the diversity of artistic languages present in this competition, we also decided to give an honorable mention to a film that impressed us with its freshness, in an original and evocative portrayal of the relationship between a daughter and her mother,\u201d the jury stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">International Short Film Competition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The EMEL Short Film Grand Prize (4,000 euros) was awarded to <em>How to Catch a Butterfly<\/em>, by Kiriko Mechanicus. For the jury (Gonzalo E. Veloso, Raquel Andr\u00e9, and Patrick Gamble), \u201cthis film constructs a restless and formally daring essay on what fetishization actually produces; not a fantasy, but a target. What sets the film apart is the unsentimental precision with which it conducts two investigations simultaneously.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marthe Peters\u2019 <em>Henry is a Girl Who Likes to Sleep<\/em> and Dean Wei\u2019s <em>The Apple Doesn\u2019t Fall&#8230;<\/em> won the Special Jury Prize, which awards 500 euros to each film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">National Competition Awards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The TVCine Award for Best Feature Film in the National Competition (5,000 euros) went to <em>Cochena<\/em>, directed by Diogo Allen. For the jury\u2014Aya Koretzky, Feyrouz Serhal, and Jaume Claret Muxart\u2014the film is \u201ca sincere portrait that beautifully captures the essence of a community\u2019s unique spirit; this film offers an elegant and discreet, yet vivid, perception of life. It is a heartfelt celebration that highlights the warmth of family and social bonds in a deeply humanistic and cinematic way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Best Director Award for Feature Film (1,000 euros) went to Jo\u00e3o Nicolau for <em>A provid\u00eancia e a guitarra<\/em>. The jury described it as an \u201cessential exploration of the artist\u2019s condition, with intelligent humor and a bold and distinctive narrative structure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Best Short Film Award in the National Competition (2,000 euros) was won by <em>A Solid\u00e3o dos Lagartos<\/em>, by In\u00eas Nunes. According to the jury, \u201ca poetic film in which the protagonist\u2019s space encompasses the human body, gestures, and emotions, in a contrasting experience between rootedness and alienation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Alexandre Alag\u00f4a\u2019s short film \u201cXYZ\u201d received a special mention from the jury, who described the film as \u201can overwhelming and immersive experience that recreates the geometry and light of the spaces we inhabit every day with surprising intensity\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The McFly New Talent Award (sound post-production services) was awarded to <em>Coroa de espinhos<\/em>, by Francisco Moura Relvas. The jury noted \u201ca dystopian cinematic approach that captures the characters\u2019 resistance and struggle for their home in a way that only cinema can achieve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brand New<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The Brand New Award, which includes a prize of 1,000 euros, promotion and distribution by Portugal Film, and a ULHT training grant, was awarded to <em>Abril de Helena<\/em> by Maria Moreira and Victor Hugooli. The jury, composed of Lu\u00eds Campos, Rita Correia, and Tobias Obermeier, noted that the film \u201cdisplays sensitivity and maturity while telling a story about something that should be taken for granted, but isn\u2019t. A story about a mother\u2019s love for her daughter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Silvestre<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The Silvestre Award for Best Feature Film (1,500 euros)<br>The jury\u2014Eva Sangiorgi, Helv\u00e9cio Marins, and Joana G. S\u00e1\u2014decided to award the prize to <em>My Wife Cries<\/em>, by Angela Schanelec, describing it as a film \u201cthat, at first glance, seems reserved, deliberately detached, but which gradually reveals depth and emotional complexity. It is an uncompromising film that deeply explores human feelings and relationships, offering moments of unexpected beauty through light and atmospheres in constant and subtle transformation and movement\u2014just as happens in the human soul.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Silvestre Escola das Artes Award for Best Short Film (1,000 euros) went to Jodie Mack\u2019s <em>Lover, Lovers, Loving, Love<\/em>: \u201ca work that dazzlingly celebrates diversity in one of its most vibrant manifestations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IndieMusic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The IndieMusic Award (1,000 euros) went to <em>PARA VIVIR El implacable tiempo de Pablo Milan\u00e9s<\/em>, directed by Fabien Pisani. Marcos Farrajota, Vera Marmelo, and Violeta Azevedo, members of the competition jury, noted that Pisani\u2019s feature film \u201cgarnered the broadest consensus and tells the story of a man who was a symbol of freedom and humanity. The film made the right decisions with sensitivity for a story of great joy and, also, great sadness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The jury also awarded a special mention to Ana Rieper\u2019s film \u201cFunk U All\u201d, \u201cfor its power, authenticity and cultural significance\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unofficial Juries<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Amnesty International Award (1,500 euros) was awarded to <em>Mulheres de Abril<\/em> by Raquel Freire. The jury consisted of Ana Beatriz Bas\u00edlio, Crist\u00f3v\u00e3o Campos, and Margarida Davim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u00c1rvore da Vida Award for a film in the National Competition (500 euros). The jury, composed of Isabel Maria Al\u00e7ada Cardoso, J\u00falio Martin da Fonseca, and Maria Pacheco de Amorim, selected <em>P\u2019ra Que Vivam<\/em> by Carlos Lima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MUTIM Award (250 euros) honors the short film from the Brand New section that best contributes to a non-stereotypical cinematic imagination in Portuguese cinema. The jury, composed of L\u00eddia Mello, Joana Gusm\u00e3o, and Justine Lemahieu, awarded the prize to Abril de Helena, by Maria Moreira and Victor Hugooli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Schools Award for Best Short Film went to \u00c9ramos S\u00f3 Putos, by Jo\u00e3o Nunes Monteiro. The Schools Jury was composed of B\u00e1rbara Guimar\u00e3es, B\u00e1rbara Pessoa, and Madalena Silva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Universities Award for Best Portuguese Feature Film went to Cochena, by Diogo Allen.
