La Bouche

Camilo Restrepo

France
2017, 19'

A musical with the drummer and percussion master Mahomed Bangoura, with vague hints of his own life. In this film, a man who discovers news of his daughter’s death at the hands of her husband is urged to do justice himself, releasing his anger and pain.

In the hands of Manon Tacconi, La bouche en coeur revels in a light touch to deal with some heavier ideas. The focus is on the friendship of two girls, Alana and Jess, who are navigating their sexuality, the way they are sexualised and the limits they can impose on the relationships they develop. But it’s above all a film about the solidarity that is created, here in a subtle, gentle and pressure-free way, between two girls who can be themselves without the suffocation of the male gaze. The simple but expressive animation and the sound design totally transport us to a night out, to a day at the beach and to a moment of affection. (Ana Cabral Martins)
