The programme of IndieMusic, the section of IndieLisboa that makes a connection between cinema and music, will be a journey into every decade from the 1930s to the present day, with a special stop in the 60s and 70s.
It was in 1969 that the infamous Altamont concert happened, at the end of the American tour of the Rolling Stones, marked by the death of a fan at the hands of Hell’s Angels, who were part of the security team of the event. Gimme Shelter is the movie of that happening, and is considered by many to be the best rock film of all time. It will be screened in celebration of its 50th anniversary.
During those decades, Charles Aznavour, the man of the standards, recorded some of his greatest hits and recorded in the first person a diary of his travels, concerts and friends who we can see in Aznavour by Charles. The 70’s were still marked by the emergence of the anti-racist movement Rock Against Racism, a central movement of British punk rock, which included bands like The Clash or Sham 69, and finds echoes in the times, as we can confirm in White Riot registered in the photographies of Jim Marshall, an historical photographer that captured memorable moments that we have all seen at least once, from Johnny Cash in prison to the last Beatles concert – Show me the Picture: Jim Marshall’s story.
O IndieMusic 2020 still goes through the life of drummer Klaus Dinger, founder of NEU! and musician of Kraftwerk (The Hearth is a Drum), a life story of the legend Billie Holiday, one of the greatest voices of all time, here with images from archives and interviews never seen (Billie), by Glenn-Copeland, a singular artist who, at the age of 74, makes his first tour, after his obscure electronic music album Keyboard fantasies is edited by a Japanese collector of rarities (Keyboard fantasies: the story of Beverly Glenn-Copeland) and the history of Brazilian electronic music until today, but with a central figure of Jocy de Oliveira, pioneer of Brazilian electronic music (Eletronica: Mentes).
From Portugal arrives Caos e Afinidade, a portrait of the improvised music scene, with a special focus on Lisbon with the epicenter in the now extinct bar Unreal. It displays names like Gabriel Ferrandini, Adriana Sá or Lantana and SOA in which he speaks of sound environments, of silence and noise and all the sound spectres, from infra to ultra-sound, frequencies and rhythm, preceded by the short film Making a Diagonal With Music, about the composer of electro-acoustic music, Beatriz Ferreyra.
The jury of the IndieMusic competitive section will offer a prize of € 1000 to the winning film. The jury is composed by the musicians Jorge Ferraz (Santa Maria, Gasolina em Teu Ventre! E Ezra Pound) and Cláudia Guerreiro (Linda Martini), in addition to the broadcaster and programmer Ricardo Mariano.
