Suggestions for the last weekend

The 19th edition of IndieLisboa is coming to an end, but there is still a lot to discover in the last weekend of the festival. Here are our suggestions of films not to be missed:

Tonight, in a special screening, the most recent film by Margarida Cardoso: SITA – The Life and Times of Sita Valles. Cinema São Jorge is hosting, in its largest room, a documentary that reconstructs the path and the no fully clarified death of Sita Valles, through several testimonies of political figures of the Portuguese society. The screening will be followed by a debate moderated by Marta Lança. At the same time, the only screening of The Lost Record, by Alexandra Cabral and Ian F Svenonius. After, the duo, also known as Escape-ism, goes to Musicbox, where they have a concert scheduled at 11:30 pm, in an IndiebyNight event.

On Saturday, Peter Strickland returns to IndieLisboa with Flux Gourmet. The British director explores pastiche and dead-pan humour in a story that takes us to a house in the countryside, a residence where artists extract disturbing sounds from food. From the National Competition, there is still time to watch Dry Ground Burning, by Adirley Queirós and Joana Pimenta, and to meet Léa, Chitara and Andreia. That same night, IndiebyNight brings us its last concert: after the screening of the film Sonosfera Telectu, Telectu meets the public again, this time at St George’s Church, at 9:30 pm.

On Sunday, Culturgest GA will show Rewind and Play, by Alain Gomis. An urgent documentary film that dives into the archive to tell the story of jazz composer and pianist Thelonious Monk. Later at the same venue, at the closing screening Laís Bodanzky and the cast of Pedro, Between the Devil and the Deep Sea will be present. The journey in question is that of Pedro IV of Portugal, I of Brazil, crossing the Atlantic. On his return to Europe, he now intends to dispute the Portuguese crown with his brother.

In addition to these, there are many more titles to see in our partner cinemas. Check out the full programme here.

The winning films of the competitive sections will be announced at the awards ceremony, also on Sunday, at the end of the day, in Culturgest PA. The awarded films can then be watched at Cinema Ideal, from Monday to Wednesday, May 9th, 10th and 11st.
