Jia Zhangke

Jia Zhangke is maybe today's most interesting and influent name within contemporary Chinese cinema post-fifth generation, as the director has been operating a profound and generational renewal of Chinese cinema. With only 35 years old, Zhangke reveals a work that not only defies and resists to a country that still exerces censorship over artistic work that do not reflect its official policies, but also because he has put himself outside conventions by showing Chinese society as it is seen and lived by its population, and in particular how do young people face all the big changes that followed Cultural Revolution.

New Argentinean Cinema

Argentina has one of the most varied and consistent world cinematography that states that, even during a serious economic crisis and faced with financial problems, the will of making films, no matter what the production conditions are, still reigns. And the result is surprisingly diversified and, most of the times, of high quality. Because it reflects the independent spirit in what IndieLisboa is based upon, the festival organized an exhibition of short and feature films by a group of Argentinean directors, selected by Eduardo Antin (Quintín), the former director of Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival.
